Giant Rubber Duck Missing
A 54-foot tall inflated duck, the trademark creation of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, is on the run after disappearing from a river in China’s southwestern Guiyang city, where it was being displayed for locals.
But there have been no signs of the yellow behemoth to date. Officials placed a "back-up duck order" from Taiwan that was set to arrive on Saturday, the Wall Street Journal reports, but so far there's been no word if the replacement duck has arrived.
Dec 31 2013 Taiwan: The 18 metre (50 foot) inflatable duck suddenly collapsed on Tuesday, only 11 days after it had been put on display in the port at Keelung. Organisers are unsure as to the cause of its demise, but one theory is that it was attacked by eagles.
The mysterious new installation showed up yesterday in Beijing after the famous inflatable rubber duck went missing in Guizhou, Guiyang Province, on Wednesday following a storm. The ‘golden toad’, which represents wealth and good fortune in traditional Chinese culture, is 22 metres (72.2 ft) tall and was floating on a lake at the Yuyuantan Park.
