iPhone 6 plus bendgate

If it is true that Apple’s new iPhone 6 bends in your pocket, it is probably not a feature the tech giant would be proud of.

"It's thought that the issue is simply because the 6 Plus is so much larger and thinner than previous phones, that the aluminum case simply doesn't have enough strength proportional to its length," The Independent reports.

It emerged today that the iPhone 6 is susceptible to bending when carried in a pants pocket - even just a handful of hours. Apple has refused to comment on 'bendgate' - even as online memes began to emerge mocking the company for the dubious durability of its product.

Apple has said that iPhones, do not bend easily with normal use. Out of millions of iPhones sold in six days, only 9 customers have had a bent iPhone 6 Plus. Apple’s market value decreased $23 billion as shares lost 0.4%.

Apple denies any manufacturing errors. It says that the iPhone has titanium inserts and the strongest glass in the industry to keep the iPhone from bending.

Apple pulls iOS 8 update

The update, iOS 8.0.1, has apparently caused major problems for many users who report the update has interfered with their cell signal and created problems with Apple's Touch ID.

Apple has pulled the update from its Developer Center and users are no longer able to download iOS 8.0.1 as an over-the-air update.

Apple said in a statement that it had received reports of the issues with the update, which is called iOS 8.0.1. Customers can still use iOS 8, which was released last week.

For Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook, the software problems tarnish what has been a record-breaking release for the latest iPhones. The company sold more than 10 million handsets of the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in their first weekend on sale starting Sept. 19, with the devices becoming available in more than the original list of 10 countries beginning on Sept. 26.

The update, labeled iOS 8.0.1, was supposed to fix a number of bugs in the new software, launched last week, including one with Apple’s HealthKit feature.

Emma Watson's UN speech

Harry Potter star Emma Watson has launched a United Nations equality campaign in New York called HeForShe, in her capacity as UN women goodwill ambassador.

For the record, feminism by definition is: "The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.

"If men don’t have to be aggressive in order to be accepted women won’t feel compelled to be submissive. If men don’t have to control, women won’t have to be controlled. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong… It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideals."

Members of 4chan’s b board lost their very minds over this, and embarked on a campaign against Watson almost immediately.

So far, this has included a threat to release hacked nude pictures of her in the manner that other celebrity photos have been leaked over the past two months–complete with a sad little countdown website titled Emma You Are Next.

Apple Watch missing "i"

One thing was missing: the "i" in front of the Watch. Technically, the word "Apple" isn't in either name. It's the Apple logo instead:

The absent alphabet may signify the Watch's positioning for now - as an accessory and companion to the iPhone, which it requires in order to work, rather than a product that exists on its own merits.

"It is a new era," said Ellen Leanse, a brand strategist and former senior Apple executive. "It was a highly confident move that signals, pardon the pun, watch us."

"It would have been trite to call it the iWatch. It would have been looking backwards," she added. "This could pave a new path for a product family" like the Macintosh.

Sun Storm heading for Earth

An extreme solar flare is heading toward Earth – one the size of which scientists say they haven't seen coming from the middle of the sun in years.

"There's been a giant magnetic explosion on the sun," said Tom Berger, director of the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado. "Because it's pointed right at us, we'll at least catch some of the cloud" of highly energized and magnetized plasma that can disrupt Earth's magnetic sphere, which sometimes leads to temporary power grid problems.

An intense, X-class solar flare occurred on Wednesday afternoon, originating from Active Region 2158. This is the second major flare in two days from AR2158, and could provide an intense aurora show Friday night if the associated coronal mass ejection is earth-bound. (NASA)

The X-class solar flares are the strongest classification on the scale, and can produce strong to extreme radio blackouts on the daylight side of Earth when they occur. They are also known to produce long-lasting geomagnetic storming when the associated CME arrives.

One nice side effect of the solar storm is an expansion of the photogenic aurora borealis, or Northern Lights, across Canada and the northern U.S.

The Northern Lights appear when atoms in the Earth's high-altitude atmosphere collide with energetic charged particles from the sun. They usually appear as shimmering green waves of light in the nighttime sky in polar latitudes. Much more rarely, they can be red and even blue.

Prince William and Kate Middleton expecting second child

It’s official: The Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant with her second child. A tweet posted Monday from the official account of the British monarchy confirmed that Kate Middleton, who married Prince William in 2011 and gave birth to their son Prince George in July 2013, is expecting another baby.

"Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are very pleased to announce that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their second child," Clarence House said in a statement Monday. "The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news." The baby will become fourth in line to the British throne, and push Prince Harry to fifth in line.

For a second time, William and Kate have been forced to announce a pregnancy before the duchess passed the significant 12-week milestone.

For a second time it's because Kate is suffering from an acute form of morning sickness - though this time she's being treated behind palace walls and not at a private hospital with representatives of the world's media gathered outside.

The sickness - called hyperemesis gravidarum - is a condition that may require supplementary hydration, medication and nutrients.

Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond said: "This is very happy news for any couple, and on behalf of the people of Scotland, I am delighted to send our best wishes to the countess and our hearty congratulations to the royal couple."

The duchess is known as the Countess of Strathearn in Scotland.

Ladies' Code's Rise Dead at 23

Kwon Ri-sae, known as Rise was in critical condition from a van crash that took the life of fellow band mate Go Eun-bi, better known as EunB earlier this week. The fatal car accident on Sept. 3 involving Ladies' Code has taken another life. After 21-year-old EunB passed away shortly after the incident, member Rise has died. She was 23.

Last year, the group released two strong EPs, Code#01 Bad Girl and Code#02 Pretty Pretty and Billboard recently named the group one of their top K-pop artists to watch in 2014. They also won New Artist of the Year from the Gaon Chart Awards and their infectious new single, “Kiss Kiss,” was released just last month.

Police suspect that the van driver may have been speeding on the wet road to meet a tight schedule on the way back from filming a television appearance in the south-eastern city of Daegu.

MSN Messenger finally shut down on 31 Oct

IT’S the end of an era. Microsoft’s MSN Messenger is finally being switched off after 15 years. Launched in 1999 it was the way to socialise before Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp. With user numbers in the hundreds of millions by the mid-2000s many stopped using MSN after Microsoft bought Skype in 2012 and was phased out. Plus, as mobile texting came to prominence we found new ways to communicate.

Microsoft started to phase out MSN Messenger (also known as Windows Live Messenger) globally in April 2013 and it will be completely shut down on October 31st. MSN Messenger is only available in mainland China until then. In an e-mail about the changes, Microsoft suggested that users switch to Skype. As an incentive to join Skype, Microsoft is offering a free $2 credit to users that make the switch.
